Private - Airport Shuttle - Rental Car - Uber - Taxis
There are many different forms of transportation in Los Cabos. Your options are private transportation, shared shuttle service, rental car, uber or a taxi. All are great options depending on what you are looking for.
Once you step out of the SJD Airport, you will be surrounded by a sea of people and a lot of stimulation. There are two bars steps outside of the airport, loud music, and hundreds of shuttle services trying to get your business. No matter what option you choose, we highly recommend getting everything planned beforehand so that you know exactly where to go and who to meet outside of the airport.
The best and most reliable form of transportation is private transportation, which is around $150 roundtrip. These services come with A/C, cold beverages and VIP professional service. You will be given specific instructions (with videos) of how to navigate the airport and exactly where to meet your driver. Most private services also will stop at the mega grocery store for an additional charge.
The airport shuttle service is a more affordable option, however, the downside is it is shared with other people and you may have to wait a very long time for the shuttle to fill up. We have heard of services for less than $20 per person - it will just take some research and make sure to schedule one with lots of reviews.
If you plan on renting a car, we recommend Cactus Rent a Car. Use code "LETSDOMEXICO" for 10% off. If you are planning a trip to the East Cape for great surf and empty beaches, we recommend renting a car with 4 wheel drive.
In regards to Uber, it is a bit tricky in Mexico. Uber’s are not allowed to pick anyone up from the airport and they have a max limit of three people per car. The upside is that Uber's are much cheaper in Mexico compared to the US. If you have less than three people who want to explore San Jose, Uber will be your best bet.
Taxis are another great option, especially if you have more than three people in your group. The taxis are reasonably priced. For reference, a trip from Las Olas to Downtown San Jose for 4 people was $40 one way.
